eHarmony is probably the most famous, and one of the largest and most unique online dating sites around today. And guys - the WOMEN outnumber the MEN on here 3 to 1! If you can’t get a date on eHarmony - I just don’t know what I can do for you. :)
eHarmony has a totally unique approach to helping its members find a date. You do not browse through profiles at eHarmony like you do at most online dating sites. There is not even any instant messaging. When you open up an account, eHarmony has you fill out an extensive personality survey that can take 45 minutes to an hour. |

They tell you that people who are “mentally unhealthy” will be denied membership. Sorry Dude! The survey dives into many facets of your personality then uses your responses to triangulate your matches using some alien space technology. You are then presented only with profiles of other singles who are highly compatible to you. For those of us who wish the day had about 40 hours, this is a GREAT time saver.
This process is designed to do a lot of the weeding out associated with dating for you, save you time, and even save you some emotional investment. eHarmony has based its entire site on the theory that there are hundreds of dimensions form personality and compatibility between singles, and by cross analyzing dimensions, eHarmony creates highly compatible matches for you with a very minimal effort on your part. eHarmony then keeps presenting you with matches until you find the right woman for you.
As a paying member, you can request communication with any of your matches. If a match agrees then you are taken through a three step process within eHarmony before you can openly email them. Step 1 is a multiple choice questionnaire where you select five personality/character/relationship oriented multiple choice questions from a predetermined list that is presented to the other person to answer. They do the same in return. If you both “pass” then you move on to step 2. Step 2 is submission of a list of must have and must not haves that shows your profile match the things that you "must have" in a partner (i.e. chemistry, loyalty) and things you "can't stand" in a partner (i.e. crude, bigoted, lazy). On to step three, which is three "open-ended" questions that the other single answers. You can select from a list of predetermined questions or write your own. After you both pass and agree to keep communicating, then you are free to contact each other as you wish.
Now, eHarmony is the most expensive online dating site that I have run across. However, if you are looking for a serious relationship, I feel that it is the best online dating site. You pay $49.95 for a month, 3 months are $99.95, 6 months is $159.95 and 1 Year is $299.95.
eHarmony also has another unique offering that no other online dating website has. They have their own audio CD series by Dr. Neil Clark Warren that offers very insightful coaching to understand your own wants and needs when searching for a partner.
